Yes, as promised albeit a little late ………. the second of my Summer posts. Sea salt Summer Days and the living is definitely easier! There’s nothing quite like the sound and taste of the Rainbow Hued days of Summertime.
One of my favourite times of year, and when we happen upon a Good one there’s no better place to be than old Ireland! Faces full of glee and Joie de Vie, crowds basking on beaches , sugared smell of candy floss and the creamy goodness of Ice Cream……………………… and Summer’s exciting trends and edgy prints on every fashionista’s wishlist, make this one of the most vibrant seasons of the fashion calendar.
As for Violinkit nothing is excluded when it comes to Summertime colours and prints. Vintage or Modern I love them all and will fearlessly mix clashing prints together in a random impulse and carry on in my carefree way. This I think is the best attitude to have when daring to wear something others would not, be it a period style dress or an ensemble of tartan ( which will be huge for AW/16 by the way) and florals.
Summertime is a great season to start experimenting with Vintage if you have not ventured in those waters before. So many summer highstreet styles are based on Vintage anyway that it would be hard to avoid them.
One of the most popular of these is the Wiggle Dress. This dress is a figure hugging design with a tight fitting skirt usually to the knee or below. It was designed in the fifties and was narrower around the hem than at the hips. Its purpose was to exaggerate an hour glass figure and because it was so narrow at the hem it forced the wearer to walk with their knees close together and thus “WIGGLE” their er! hips giving a sexier and altogether new way of moving about…….!!!!!!!!!
One of the most
Iconic movie scenes where the Wiggle dress was centre stage was in the 1950’s movie “Some Like It Hot” . The scene I’m referring to is the train station scene where Marilyn Monroe Wiggles her way down the platform and all eyes are on her….or part of her…Ha ha! See Here
Another popular summer style is the Fifties style full skirt and can be bought from Vintage shops for an Authentic look or alternatively on the high street in lots of vivid colours and various prints.
I’ve put together some looks showcasing these styles and I hope you enjoy them. If you do love them, remember they are very popular styles and can be found regularly both on the high street and in Vintage shops.
Hope you enjoyed this Summer post and if you have any questions or thoughts I’d love to hear from you.
HAPPY SUMMER DAYS! XXXX VIOLINKIT
